Does Jesus Christ Pray for You?

We find the answer in the Word of God in the Book of John, Chapter 17, referred to as the High Priestly Prayer. This chapter reveals the depth of Jesus’ love and intercession for His followers. Note that I said “followers.”

The Bible: Written for Believers

The Bible was written for believers, not for non-believers, as stated in 1 Corinthians 2:14:
“But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him.”

Non-believers often find the Bible offensive because it confronts human sin and challenges worldly values. For believers, however, the Holy Spirit illuminates the Scriptures, enabling understanding and guiding lives according to God’s will.

Jesus Prays for Believers

The High Priestly Prayer in John 17 tells us of Jesus praying for His disciples and all future believers:
“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word” (John 17:20).

This means Jesus prayed for you over 2,000 years ago if you are a believer today. His prayer is timeless, encompassing every believer across the ages, even those not yet born.

What Jesus Wants for You

Through His intercession (praying on behalf of believers), Jesus expresses four key desires for believers:

  1. To Be Secured
Jesus assures eternal security for believers: “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing.” (John 6:39)
  2. To Be Satisfied
Despite trials, believers can experience joy and contentment: “You greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.” (1 Peter 1:8)
  3. To Be Separated
Jesus prays for believers to be kept from evil and worldly influences: “Come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. (2 Corinthians 6:17)
  4. To Be Sanctified
Sanctification involves being set apart for God’s purposes: “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

What Jesus Does Not Pray For

  1. He Does Not Pray for the World
“I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me” (John 17:9).
  2. He Does Not Pray for Believers to Be Removed from the World
Instead, He asks for protection: “Keep them from the evil one” (John 17:15).
  3. He Does Not Exclude Future Believers
His prayer encompasses all who will come to faith through the apostles’ teachings.

Jesus’ Eternal Intercession

Hebrews 7:25 provides a profound assurance: “He always lives to make intercession for them.”

Even as He faced crucifixion, Jesus prayed for His followers. His intercession continues today, securing believers in faith and guiding them through life’s challenges.

Your Role in the Kingdom

As we reflect on Jesus’ prayers for us, consider your role in advancing His kingdom. Whether through prayer, financial support (you can donate by clicking here), or sharing the Gospel, you are essential to spreading God’s Word.

If this message has touched your heart, share it with others and invite them to visit TreasureTop.com. Together, all Christians are commanded to shine the light of Christ by fulfilling Matthew 28:19-20 where Jesus says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Jesus Knew You Before You Were Born

Jesus knew your name and prayed for you before you were born. His love and intercession offer assurance, guidance, and hope for all who believe. If you haven’t yet accepted Him as your Savior, today is the perfect time.

If You Have Not Accepted Jesus Christ

Friend, if you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, now is the time. You cannot save yourself by good works or rituals—salvation is a gift of God’s grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you feel a stirring in your heart, it could be God drawing you closer. Pray to God, ask for forgiveness, repent (turn away from) your sins, and invite Christ into your heart. There’s no second chance to accept Christ  after you die, and all non-believers will go to Hell and live there for eternity. Right now is the time to Accept Christ before it is too late.
