In this episode, Pastor John talks about how God does not punish you, though it sure seems that He does.
God does not punish you
Did you know that God does not PUNISH you? That’s because if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, all of your sins – past, present, and future – have already been paid for. Notice that I said “IF” you have accepted Christ, your sins were nailed to the cross when Jesus was crucified. If God were to punish you again, that’s like “double jeopardy”, being tried for the same crime twice in criminal court. God CORRECTS us, but he does not PUNISH us. He will use PAIN to correct us if we CONTINUE to act in sinful ways and refuse to turn from that sin. If God did NOT discipline, He would not be a caring Father. Just as we should lovingly discipline our children for their well-being, so does our heavenly Father lovingly correct His children for THEIR benefit. That’s you and me.
Discipline
Discipline is like cleansing. It’s a growth hormone. We get a second chance to become more like Christ. If you’d like second chances and not punishment, just pray this prayer out loud or to yourself: “Jesus, come into my heart. I proclaim you my Lord and Savior. Forgive me of my sins.” If you really meant what you prayed, you now have the Holy Spirit in you, to help lead you and guide you.
