The Most Important Question You’ll Ever Ask

Life Is Full of Questions

Career, marriage, where to live – but above all other questions is one that determines everything: “Am I ready?”
Ready for what? Ready for eternity.
The Bible teaches that everyone will die once, and then comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Eternity has only two destinations: Heaven or Hell. There is no middle ground, no second chance.
“And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life” (Matthew 25:46, LSB).

The Only Way

Jesus made it clear:
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6, LSB).
Salvation is not about good works or religion. It is a gift of grace, received by faith (Ephesians 2:8–9).

Our Need

Scripture says, “There is none righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10, LSB).
We cannot save ourselves. Only Christ’s death and resurrection can forgive sin and make us ready for eternity.

Real Faith

Believing in Jesus with your mind is not enough. Jesus said,
“Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3, LSB).
True readiness means confessing Him as Lord and trusting His resurrection:
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, LSB).

How to Be Ready

  1. Examine your heart (2 Corinthians 13:5).
  2. Set your focus on eternity (Matthew 6:20).
  3. Share Christ with others (Matthew 28:19).
  4. Stay watchful (Matthew 24:42).

A Prayer of Readiness

If you’ve never trusted Jesus, you can respond today by praying:
  • “Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. I confess You as Lord and surrender my life to You. Forgive me and make me ready for eternity. Amen.”
Jesus promises:
“He who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24, LSB).

Next Steps

  1. Read the Bible daily. Start in the Book of John and the Book of Proverbs (one chapter from each book each day).
  2. Pray often.
  3. Connect with a Bible-believing church that features expository preaching, verse-by-verse.
  4. Tell someone about your decision (Matthew 28:19).
