Why the Resurrection of Jesus Still Matters Today

The Event That Changed Everything

If Jesus Christ had not died on the cross, risen from the dead three days later, and remained alive today, the Christian faith would be meaningless. The Bible would be false, sin would remain undefeated, and death would have the final word.

But Jesus did die. He did rise. And He is alive today.

The Resurrection Is a Matter of Eternity

Every person will exist eternally. The question is not whether eternity is real but where each person will spend it.

The Bible teaches that those who belong to Christ receive eternal life with Him. Those who reject Christ remain under judgment and experience eternal separation from God.

John 3:18 (NASB) says:

He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

This is why Easter is a matter of life or death. The resurrection confronts every person with the identity and authority of Jesus Christ. He is not merely a teacher to admire. He is the risen Lord before whom every person must ultimately stand.

There is no neutral response to Jesus. A person either believes in Him or rejects Him.

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus does not provide temporary salvation. He saves forever those who draw near to God through Him.

• Those who are truly in Christ are forgiven because their salvation rests upon His finished work, not their ability to save or preserve themselves. Jesus remains their living Savior, Advocate, and High Priest.
• The word “forgiven” changes everything. It means that the guilt of sin does not have to define your eternity. Through faith in Christ, sinners can be reconciled to God and receive the gift of eternal life.

You Cannot Earn Salvation

No amount of good behavior, charitable giving, church attendance, baptism, religious ritual, or personal sacrifice can earn salvation.

Ephesians 2:8–9 (NASB) says:

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Salvation is God’s gift. Only God can save you.

Even the desire to come to Christ begins with God’s work in the human heart. John 6:44 (NASB) records Jesus saying:

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

If you feel convicted of your sin and drawn toward Jesus Christ, do not ignore that prompting. It may be God drawing you to His Son.

Salvation is not produced by repeating magical words. It comes through genuine faith in Jesus Christ—believing that He died for sin, rose from the dead, and is Lord.

Romans 10:9 (NASB) says:

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Turn to Christ in faith and repentance. Ask for His forgiveness, trust His finished work, and confess Him as your Lord and Savior.

Believers Are Secure in the Hands of Christ

The same Savior who conquers death is able to keep everyone who truly belongs to Him.

John 10:27–29 (NASB) says:

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

A believer’s security does not rest upon perfect human performance. It rests upon the strength, authority, and faithfulness of Jesus Christ.

The risen Jesus gives eternal life, and no one can take His people out of His hand.

Easter Is a Daily Reality

Easter is not simply an annual celebration. The resurrection of Jesus Christ affects every day of a believer’s life.
