Punishment
God does not punish you if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior because acceptance of Him means that all of your sins – past, present, and future – have already been paid for. Your sins were nailed to the cross when Jesus was crucified. If God were to punish you again, that’s like “double jeopardy”, being tried for the same crime twice in criminal court. Discipline is like cleansing. It’s a growth hormone. We get a second chance to become more like Christ. If you’d like second chances and not punishment, and you feel a prompting in your heart, it may be God calling you to invite Jesus into your heart, for only God can save you. You can invite Jesus by saying: “Jesus, please come in to my life. I proclaim you my Lord and Savior. Forgive me of my sins.”
The Unforgivable Sin
Rejecting Jesus Christ as the one and only Savior leaves an unbeliever without any hope for salvation. Therefore, rejecting the one and only pardon is the unpardonable sin. John 3:36: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.”
Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:44 NIV). This means it is God who chooses us; we do not choose Him.
