Are Demonic Spirits Real, and Should I Be Afraid of Them?

Three Distinct Spirits

The Bible speaks of three distinct spirits: the Spirit of God (also known as the Holy Spirit), the human spirit, and demonic spirits.

Some do not believe the Bible and what it says about spirits. The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:14-16 wrote, “But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no man. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.”

Wisdom that Saves

The wisdom that saves, which man by his own wisdom cannot know, is revealed to us by God in three ways:

By Revelation in 1 Corinthians 10 and 11, by Inspiration given to those who wrote the Bible (1 Corinthians 12 and 13); and by Illumination which is given to all believers who seek the divinely written truth (1 Corinthians 14–16).

The Divine Agent

In each case, the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of God) is the divine agent who is doing the work of revelation, inspiration, and illumination in us: 2 Peter 1:21 – “for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”

Believers Don’t Know Everything

Believers know everything. Deuteronomy 29:29 states: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.”

Believers have been enlightened with wisdom and discernment that the unbeliever does not have. 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV) says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Truth

To learn about the demonic spirits, a person must first accept the scripture, the Holy Bible, as the inerrant word and truth of God. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16 ESV)

Is God Prompting You?

If you or someone you know is not a Christian, but you feel a stirring or prompting in your heart that you have not felt before, or maybe have ignored before, it could be God asking you to accept his Son as your Lord and Savior. Anyone who rejects the Holy Spirit removes themselves from the only power (that of the Holy Spirit) who can lead one to repentance and restoration to God.
  • Because there is no second chance to accept Christ if someone dies before accepting Christ, invite Him into your heart now, proclaim Him your Lord and Savior, and ask forgiveness of your sins. It’s the most significant decision one can make and that determines where you are going to spend eternity, either in heaven or in hell.
