The Most Dividing Question
The most dividing question in the world is, “What are you going to do about Jesus?” Have you ever noticed just the mention of Jesus upsets people? Luke 12 beginning in verse 52 Jesus says, “From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other…father against son…son against father… mother against daughter…daughter against mother… mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” That happened when Christ was on earth, it’s still happening today, and it will continue until Jesus returns.
What Matters Most
What matters most is where you are going to spend eternity, not who’s against you on earth. Jesus knew there would be division because of Him. And we have the choice when we are prompted by the Holy Spirit: do we accept Christ or not? We either stand with Christ and spend eternal life in Heaven with Him as our reward, or we deny Christ and spend eternal life in Hell.
If you feel a stirring or prompting in your heart that you have not felt before or maybe have ignored before, it could be God through the Holy Spirit asking you to accept his Son as your Lord and Savior. If you reject the prompting of the Holy Spirit, you remove yourself from the only force (the power of the Holy Spirit) that can lead you to repentance and restoration to God. Genuine conversion (“born again”) involves both the Spirit’s convicting work and the person’s conscious decision to repent and believe.
Only God can save you. You cannot save yourself. Ephesians 2:8-9 (LSB) says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast.”
