What is the difference between a tithe and an offering? Both are forms of giving, but they serve slightly different purposes. A tithe is a regular portion of your income given to your church, while an offering is an additional gift that may be given to your church or another organization.
What Is a Tithe?
A tithe is a percentage of your income that you prayerfully determine to give regularly. Your tithe should support your church, whether that is a local congregation you attend in person or an online church where you worship and receive spiritual guidance.
Giving beyond your regular tithe is generally considered an offering.
What Is an Offering?
An offering is a gift given in addition to your tithe. Offerings may support your church, a ministry, a charity, or another organization whose work you want to encourage.
We recommend supporting your church first through regular tithing and then making additional gifts as you feel led and are financially able.
