Jesus Still Prays for Believers: John 17, Christ’s Intercession, and the Model of Prayer

In this biblical message from John 17, discover how Jesus Christ’s High Priestly Prayer reveals that He still prays for every true believer. Learn how Jesus prayed for His own glory, for His disciples’ protection and sanctification, for future believers’ unity, and for the believer’s ultimate perfection in His presence. This teaching explains Christ’s ongoing intercession, the meaning of justification and sanctification, and why Jesus alone is our Great High Priest and perfect mediator before the Father.

And then learn what Jesus taught as the model of prayer for when you pray.

Whenever we come to God in prayer, we must be sure there is no unconfessed sin. Unconfessed sin blocks out communication with God and blocks our ability to receive what God has in store for us. So before we ask anything in God’s name, we must ask forgiveness of our sins and be willing to repent (turn away from) our sins, not continuing in the same repetition of those sins. Proverbs 28:9 says, “He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.” Psalm 66:18 – “If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear…” John 9:31 – “We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.” God delights in forgiving sinners, and He even saved the chief of sinners, the Apostle Paul. God is the God of second chances and a new start: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (John 1:1:9).
