Happy Father’s Day

Fatherly Influence … what it is and why it matters. On today’s podcast, learn about recent perceptions of fatherhood and how those perceptions have impacted the current generation, the statistics that speak to the importance of the father, and the characteristics of what comprises a real father.

I know that for some of you, the word “Father” brings about very negative connotations and bad memories. You may have been abused physically or sexually by a father or stepfather. Or maybe you had an absentee father who was never around, or if he was around, he was mentally and spiritually absent. If one of those situations was the case for you, I want you to know that I am very sorry.

That abuse was not God’s intention when he formed male and female. With the introduction of sin into the world when Adam disobeyed God, we have all inherited the sin gene because we are all descendants of Adam. As a result, some people perform horrendous acts as the result of sin being introduced into the world.

One thing we know is while there may be accidental parents, there are no accidental children. Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV) says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” God has a purpose and plan for every individual, even before their birth, affirming that in God’s eyes, there are no accidental children.

One of the best places to begin understanding Fatherly Influence, and how to be a man of God as a father that honors God the Father, is found in the Book of Proverbs 1:1-7 (NASB): “The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding, To receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity; To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion, A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel, To understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Is God Prompting You? If you or someone you know is not a Christian (this is referred to as someone not being “Saved”), but you feel a stirring or prompting in your heart that you have not felt before, it may be God asking you to accept his Son as your Lord and Savior.

  • There is no second chance to accept Christ if someone dies before accepting Christ. That’s why the decision to accept Him must be made now as none of us know when we will draw our last breath on earth.
  • Invite Christ into your heart now, proclaim Him your Lord and Savior, and ask forgiveness of your sins. It’s the most significant decision that one can make and determines where you are going to spend eternity, either in heaven or in hell.
